Thermistors deliver R25 Values from 100kΩ to 210kΩ

Boasting enhanced stability for temperature sensing and compensation circuits, the SMD NTC thermistors from Vishay are optimized for heat counters, body thermometers, and other medical applications.
The thermistors provide precise measurements over a wide temperature range of -40 °C to +125 °C, and feature non-standard R25 values that are adapted to the resistivity of the thermistors' stable ceramic material and case dimensions. This last feature preserves the devices' original electrical properties throughout their lifetime for increased accuracy. The devices have an ultra-low ± 0.5% maximum variation in their initial electrical resistance values at +25 °C (R25) after 10,000 hours of operation over the full temperature range.
The devices provide one R25 value per case in the 0402, 0603, and 0805 case sizes. The devices' high R25values from 100 kΩ to 210 kΩ reduce self-heating effects, which could result in false temperature readings.

Simpler and greener relative humidity measurements 2014

Simpler and greener relative humidity measurements

Silicon Labs has today announced its second-generation relative humidity and temperature sensing solution, the Si701x/2x sensors. The new sensors simplify RH sensing designs while providing industry-leading power efficiency and ease of use. Target applications include accurate RH sensing for home automation, HVAC, refrigeration, healthcare, remote monitoring, automotive and industrial equipment.
The Si701x/2x family can be used in conjunction with Silicon Labs’ broad portfolio of energy-friendly microcontrollers and wireless ICs to enable best-in-class solutions for measuring, controlling and reporting environmental conditions for a wide range of connected devices linked to the Internet of Things.
Mark Thompson, vice president and general manager of Silicon Labs’ Access, Power and Sensor products, comments: “The new Si701x/2x family represents the state of the art in RH sensing, offering an unmatched combination of ultra-low power, ease of use, small size, precision, reliability and compatibility with standard manufacturing flows. As the only single-chip RH/temperature sensing solutions offered by a broad-based semiconductor supplier, the Si701x/2x sensors can be combined with Silicon Labs’ energy-friendly MCUs, ZigBee and sub-GHz wireless ICs, and other sensor products to address wireless sensing applications for the Internet of Things.”
Combining a standard CMOS mixed-signal IC with a proven technique of measuring humidity using a polymer dielectric film, the Si701x/2x devices provide a superior alternative to legacy RH sensing approaches, which use discrete resistive or capacitive RH sensing elements along with analog circuits for temperature compensation and signal conditioning. Often necessitating a bigger bill of materials and PCB area, these discrete solutions typically have a high risk of contamination and low reliability. Incompatible with surface-mount technology, RH/temperature calibration must be performed during PCB assembly. Attempting to solve these challenges, RH sensor module suppliers have resulted in a higher system cost without improving reliability or risk of contamination.
Contrasting the complex discrete approaches, the monolithic Si701x/2x ICs provide the highest ease of use and reduced manufacturing cost and complexity. Fully calibrated and SMT compatible, the Si701x/2x family achieves highest long-term reliability (thanks to the integrated CMOS design) and also requires negligible BOM cost. Protection against contamination is offered by an optional filter cover, in addition to the factory-installed cover (a Teflon membrane sealed at the top of the IC). This factory-installed cover protects the sensor throughout the device’s entire lifetime, shielding the sensing element from dust, dirt and cleaning agents during operation.
Featuring the lowest power consumption in the integrated RH/temperature sensor market, the Si701x/2x sensors have a 3.3 V power supply voltage and 8-bit resolution, while consuming only 1.9 µW average on-chip power when taking one sample per second. Up to six times lower power than competing RH sensors, this energy efficiency makes the sensors ideally suited for power-sensitive applications and helps extend battery life.
Providing best-in-industry RH sensing precision, the Si701x/2x family is ideal for a majority of RH and temperature sensing applications that have stringent accuracy requirements. Operating over a temperature range from -10°C to +85°C, superior long-term RH accuracy is ensure with the lowest long-term RH drift at <0 .25="" 0="" 80="" a="" accuracy="" also="" and="" from="" humidity="" maintain="" maximum="" of="" operating="" over="" p="" per="" range.="" range="" rh="" sensors="" temperature="" the="" to="" wide="" year.="">

Responsive NTC sensor is suited for complex designs

Murata has announced that it will soon commence production of a range of surface-mounted NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) sensors, packaged on a Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC) film. Easily routed inside complex designs and tight spaces, the devices feature an FPC thickness of approximately 100µm.
The sensors’ low heat capacity ensure excellent thermal responsiveness. The sensors measure 50.00x3.17x0.55mm, making them suitable for determining the housing temperature of smartphones and tablets and for use in wearable products which monitor body surface temperature, such as fitness bands and sports performance monitors.
The FTNT55XH103FA1A050 sensor can measure temperatures in the range of -40 to +125°C. At 25°C, it boasts an accuracy of ±0.4°C and resistance of 10kΩ ±1%.
With smartphones and tablets becoming increasingly compact, with more sophisticated functions, the thermal design needs to be monitored in space-constrained designs. Additionally, the IoT trend of wearable products is gaining popularity, and the low-profile film temperature sensors' size and sensitivity suits use in these applications.

Moog Theremini Professional Theremin 2014

Posted by Unknown on 10:12 AM

Once upon a time, a genius named Leon created the Theremin - what many consider to be the world's first electronic instrument. It was so awesome, he changed his last name to Theremin. The Theremin's awesomeness spanned time and space and enthralled another genius named Bob Moog. This is Moog's Theremin pumped up to the next level. With tears of happiness in our eyes, we present to you the Moog Theremini Professional Theremin.
The Theremini is so friggin' awesome, we don't have room to fully describe it all (check out the Details & Specs tab for a full list), but we're gonna hit the highlights. First, it's got a powerful sound engine derived from Moog’s award winning synthesizer: Animoog. Second, and this is a first for Theremins, the Theremini has assistive pitch quantization, which allows you to adjust the instrument's level of playing difficulty. At the maximum position, the Theremini will play every note in a selected scale perfectly, making it impossible to play a wrong note. As this control is decreased, more expressive control of pitch and vibrato becomes possible. The Theremini is a dream to play, a marvel to compose with, and a work of art to look upon. If you've ever wanted to play the Theremin, the Moog Theremini Professional Theremin is the best place you could ever hope to start. We'd write more, but our Theremini is calling to us and our hands need to dance again!

Nebulophone Mini Arduino Synthesizer Kit 2014

Posted by Unknown on 10:08 AM

We love the sweet bleeping sound of electronic music. One of our favorite pioneers is Raymond Scott (and if that name doesn't mean anything to you, shame on you and look him up). Apart from his awesome musical output, his inventions reign supreme as some of the coolest things ever created (if only he wouldn't have been so secretive). When we first heard the Nebulophone, it sounded like a bunch of Scott's inventions all crammed into one. Into one easy-to-build, DIY kit, we could love and share with you. So we did.
The Nebulophone is freakin' awesome and really fun to play. It's sort of like a Stylophone on crack - you use a stylus to play a note - but that's about where the similarities end. The Nebulophone has all sorts of fun buttons and dials to alter the waveform; adjust decay, portamento, keyboard mapping, and arpeggiation; and so much more. Plus it's got a light controlled analog low-pass filter (adjustable, naturally) that adds even more fun. Our first song created on the Nebulophone is called, "Ty's Goatee" - what's yours? Get a Nebulophone today, enjoy assembling it tomorrow, and begin rocking out the day after. The Nebulophone - so much bleeping fun.
This is a KIT. Which means that you have to assemble it... which is the way kits typically work. You will need some simple soldering skillz and a screwdriver.
Nebulophone Mini Arduino Synthesizer
  • The Nebulophone is an Arduino based synth with a stylus keyboard that you build yourself.
  • Five waveforms (ramp, triangle, square, pulse, and noise).
  • Adjustable decay.
  • Light controlled analog low-pass filter with five adjustable LFO LED modes.
  • Four arpeggio modes with adjustable rate.
  • Portamento with three speed settings.
  • Pitch range and keyboard temperament controls. Switch between major and chromatic keyboard mapping.
  • Hypernoise 3000 mode.

Zeus Vehicle Cleaning Multi-Tool 2014

Posted by Unknown on 10:04 AM

After our first snow of the year here at ThinkGeek World Domination HQ, this copywriter's vehicle only seats 3 comfortably, because the backseat also is now home to the shovel, broom, and ice scraper. It's just easier to keep them all back there than to cart them into the house, only to have to cart them back out at the next chance of snow.
So we were pretty excited when we met Zeus. Not the Zeus from Mount Olympus. This other Zeus from Quirky. It's a multitool for vehicle cleaning, sort of like having a Swiss Army Knife dedicated to snowfall. It's a shovel, brush, and ice scraper ALL IN ONE. This makes us (and the person currently wedged into the back seat with the shovel, broom, and ice scraper) very happy.
Made from high-impact plastic, the shovel head flips over to become an oversized ice scraper we can't wait to try the next time it snows. A brush fits neatly into the extendable handle, which is steel where it counts and aluminum where it doesn't to lessen the tool's overall weight. Plus, the grip has reflective ends to help keep you visible while digging out.
Knowing Quirky, we assume v2.0 will be wi-fi enabled and will tell you whether or not your local grocery store is out of milk and toilet paper (spoiler alert: it is).
Product Specifications

  • Zeus is a multi-tool (shovel, brush, and ice scraper) for wintry situations
  • Wide shovel with ergonomic handle for serious snow removal
  • Removable handle doubles as a brush for clearing snow
  • Handle also features reflective ends for additional safety
  • All features break down neatly for compact storage

Smart AC Automotive Power Strip 2014

Posted by Unknown on 10:00 AM

There are never enough outlets. Even in modern houses, which have been designed knowing that humans today rely on electricity, we still end up with a power strip in every outlet. We're just glad the wiring was set up well so we don't trip a breaker every time we turn the TV on.
One place we don't think of as needing more outlets: the automobile. But as soon as we said that, you thought, "Oh wait. I could totally use more outlets in my vehicle," right? We generally think of the cigarette lighter socket as a one-to-one relationship or, more recently, one-to-multi-USBs relationship. What if we told you it could be one-to-many, both USB and AC? The Smart AC Power Strip lets you power both your smartphone and your laptop from your car, truck, boat, or RV. Plug it into the cigarette lighter socket, and take advantage of its 2 USB power ports or 2 AC outlets. No more "Are we there yet?" from the backseat when you can recharge their distractions on the go.

Doctor Who Cell Phone Alert Charms 2014

Posted by Unknown on 4:40 AM

If there is one thing the Doctor hates, it's missing a call on his cell phone. And sometimes, he's in a place where he has to be very quiet and sneak about so he doesn't get seen. Lucky for him, then, that whilst traveling the universe he found a little shop selling baby Daleks and Cybermen - really tiny, pocket-sized Daleks and Cybermen. They were too small to cause any harm, but they did have one curious feature. When exposed to certain frequencies, they would spin in a circle and cause random lights to flash. The good Doctor knew he had a powerful tool at his disposal so he bought a ton of the little creatures and disappeared into his workshop. When he emerged, he had invented the Dalek Cell Phone Alert Charm. Later, by popular demand of folks who were a little creeped out by Daleks and Cybermen, he used the same technology to reproduce his trusty vehicle, the TARDIS.

Just hang one off your jacket, computer bag, navel ring, etc., and any time you get a call on your cell phone, your very own Dalek, Cyberman, or TARDIS will spin around and little lights will flash near its base. It's just that simple. So, anytime you have to leave your cell phone on "silent," just watch your charm to see if you have an incoming call. 'But hey,' you are wondering, 'Didn't you just say the Doctor invented these things? Then how did ThinkGeek get them to sell to me?' Let's just say we have friends all over the universe...

CB Radio iPhone Handset 2014

Posted by Unknown on 4:31 AM

Sometimes, when you're barreling down the highways of life, you just have to reach out your voice into the darkness and see who's there - to let the faceless void fill with your words and thoughts and peek into your soul for a time. Why? Because that's what truckers do. They do it with CB radios, just like TV and movies of the 80s taught us. Well, the 80s are in our past, but the tech has been adapted for our present. Presenting, the CB Radio iPhone Handset.
The CB Radio iPhone Handset is just a lot of fun. Plug it into your iPhone (or any smart phone with a 3.5mm headphone jack) and get ready for loads of retro fun. A dial on the side turns the unit on and pumps up the volume, it's got a belt clip, blah blah blah. But the real joy of the CB Radio iPhone Handset is the mute button. All it does is mute the other side of the conversation, but what it really does is make the experience all the more like a real one-way CB dialog. The CB Radio iPhone Handset is great for whenever you want to talk to your good buddy and feel like the cubicle trucker you are.

Epic - Laser Projection Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard 2014

Posted by Unknown on 4:26 AM

Remember when you were promised all those amazing future tech innovations? Just around the corner was supposed to be a shining technology utopia with flying cars, personal space travel to distant galaxies, and bio-implantable cell phones. It's almost disappointing enough to make you sit at home and watch old episodes of "Space 1999".
Don't lose hope! An amazing glimpse of this promised future has just arrived at ThinkGeek in the form of the Epic - Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard. This tiny device laser-projects a keyboard on any flat, opaque surface. You can then type away accompanied by simulated key click sounds. It really is true future magic at its best. You'll be turning heads the moment you pull it from your pocket and use it to compose an e-mail on your iPad, iPhone, smartphone, tablet, or laptop. With 68 keys and and full-size QWERTY layout, the Epic - Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard lets you type up to 350 characters per minute using a device a little larger than a matchbox.

iPrank Cracked Screen Sticker Pack 2014

Posted by Unknown on 4:19 AM

We all have our clumsy moments (some of us more than most). You drop your phone and hear the ominous sound the screen makes as it hits the floor and the glass snaps. And then your wallet also makes an ominous sound, because it's going to cost you upwards of $150 to get that repaired. It happens; now you've got to deal with it.
Only you don't, because it's not real. It's a sticker. Yep. Meet the iPrank Cracked Screen Sticker Pack. It's better than some app that shows ads or a wallpaper that shows your icons on top of the spiderweb pattern instead of behind. It's a set of 6 screen protectors that look like you've broken your screen: 2 for iPhone 5, 2 for iPhone 4, and 2 for iPad. Know what that means? You can prank six of your friends. Or maybe you want to use them as your normal screen protector so you can leave your phone someplace and people are less likely to walk away with it. Going someplace where you have to check your phone? This is a nice touch. Sort of like a valet key for your phone.

ower Practical Meter and Fast Charge Cable 2014

Posted by Unknown on 4:13 AM

Fifteen minutes before you have to leave the house, you realize your phone's battery is almost dead. You plug it up right away, but how do you know where to plug it to get the maximum juice in the minimum time? Laptop? Wall? USB hub? Instead of guessing, be sure with the Power Practical Meter.
You see, one of the problems is that there are different standards for putting a full 5-watts into a USB device. The Practical Power Meter fits inline with any USB port. 5 LEDs on the front cover the range of phone charging possibilities, in 1 watt intervals, rounding up. A red LED indicator lets you monitor over 5 watts of throughput to your larger devices like iPads and tablets.
Yes, yes. Knowledge is power, but doing something with the knowledge is what counts. What if you knew you could be charging at 5 watts, but the Practical Meter indicates you've encountered a 2.5 watt limiter on your charging port or the cable itself? That's where the Fast Charge 3-in-1 Cable comes in. It has a built-in circuit that lets you override the limiter. At a 2 amp maximum, it comes with adapters for 30-pin (all iPhone 4S & earlier, iPad 3rd gen & earlier, iPods made before 2012), USB Micro (most Android devices), and USB Mini (GoPro, Motorola). Have an iPhone 5 or other Lightning connector device? Use your practical meter to see which of your cables are actually giving you the juice you need

Olloclip iPhone Camera Lens System 2014

Posted by Unknown on 4:05 AM

Checking emails, brewing a cup of Dagobah Green Tea, hanging up your collection of ThinkGeek t-shirts, putting on Wild Cherry Pepsi lip balm, using PorkKleen Hand Sanitizer to protect yourself from germs, refilling your red Swingline stapler, eating Tribbles n'Bits cereal, reading the newspaper... everything is cooler through a fisheye lens.
But the Olloclip doesn't stop with just a fisheye lens. Compatible with the iPhone 5 and 5S, the Olloclip is a quick-connect lens system that includes fisheye, wide-angle, and 2 macro lenses in a tiny and convenient package. It was a huge hit on Kickstarter, where the project blew past its $15k production costs goal and ended up raising a whopping $68,201.
